The latest music video that we shot for Monie & Meeks is the epitome of why we named our company Neuway Media. We have an unorthodox approach to film production that is centered on providing high-end, cinematic looks without breaking the bank. We do this through a very particular ethos and shooting technique that revolves around efficiency and prioritizing more essentials. Where other productions would hire a much larger crew, we keep it small and streamlined, taking on more responsibilities per person and improving our communication on set. Things get done faster and more simply by prioritizing the most important aspects of the video. We also use top of the line technology and equipment that allows us to do more with less, lowering the cost of our productions even more. For the Bad Boy music video, the biggest priorities to the artists were the lighting, the locations, and the dance choreography, so we spent most of the budget on those three things first.
The Bad Boy music video looks like it was shot with $20,000 and a huge crew over the course of multiple days. In reality, our budget was less than a quarter of that and our main crew consisted of just Brendan and Chris with one production assistant. We had a makeup and wardrobe person as well because every setup required a new look for the talent. All the other people on set were on-camera talent and professional background dancers. We filmed the entire video in 12 hours and had the first rough cut of the edit done within days. Our post production collaboration with the artists was intimate, sending new revisions constantly until their vision was perfectly realized.
Below is a behind-the-scenes video where Brendan breaks down the production process, explaining all the cinematographic decisions he made along the way:
